Batman: The Ride - Simulator in the Works!

Talk about RCT 2, RCT, No Limits, Hyper Rails, Scream Machines or any other Rollercoaster related game here.

Ladies and gentlemen, step behind the control panel and take control of this B&M classic, Batman: The Ride! As of 12.27.11, I have been planning, developing, and testing a Flash application allowing you to become the operator of this Six Flags classic. Based on the Six Flags Great America version of the ride, this simulator features exact timing, near-perfect realism, ride spiels, situations such as inclimate weather and broken restraint, and much more all packed into the very first Six Flags-based operator simulator to hit the web.

You begin behind the control panel at the station of Batman: The Ride. The goal of the simulator is to try to unload, load, and dispatch the cars in a timely manner. You are also faced with challenges during the game, such as extreme weather conditions, technical malfunctions, etc. The game is still in development. This thread will be updated upon full release. Just keep checking in every now and then

So pretty similar to the Disney simulators on themagical.nl? I've wasted a good amount of time on those, so I'll definitely keep my eye on this.

Not exactly. I based the simulator off the ones at old.towerstimes.co.uk/media/games.htm. Where you're actually the operator. But there are still many similarities to the simulators at themagical.nl

Wow, your graphics are really awesome! I started a Giant Drop one (however, I didn't use the stage or any images in any of my programming, just the graphics api in a bunch of classes (http://img827.imageshack.us/img827/2003/22aysx.png)), but I never finished due to lack of interest. Here's what it ended up looking like (again, no images, just code). I'm aware the control panel and monitor look like complete crap, as they're no where near even done.

Anyway, I really can't wait for you to release it, even the menu looks amazing so far! Maybe if you're interested, we can both finish the giant drop one or something when you're done, because I want to start working on it again, haha.

(And yes, I've been a long time viewer of the boards, but I never had any intentions on joining until I saw somebody else in the world enjoys programming + roller coasters :p)

Hey, Brogrammer

Thanks for taking interest in the simulator! I would really like to team up with you on the Giant Drop simulator. It looks like it has much potential. Of course, with new graphics ;) It gets a little hard doing this all solo. And it is nice to meet someone who shares similar interests. If you'd like to get in touch, you can go ahead and e-mail me at jhaitsma@yahoo.com.

Anyway, the simulator should be up either the end of this week, or the beginning of next. I haven't had too much time to work, considering it is the holidays. I have completed the entire UI and I am now finishing up on some basic functions. Stay tuned for more!

Are you guys using Flash? I am a pretty proficient programmer myself and have always wanted to start a ride simulator. Haven't touched Action Script in a while but I know where I left off.

You guys want to start a SFGAmWorld arcade?

I'm using ActionScript 3. That would actually be really cool. One of the reasons I decided to go with Batman: The Ride is not only its popularity and history, but how common it is at Six Flags parks. So maybe not just a SFGAm Arcade, but a SF Arcade. It actually does sound kind of cool to make :D I mean, there are Disney ones and Alton Towers ones already on the net. E-mail me at jhaitsma@yahoo.com if you're interested in teaming up :P

Is it going to cost to use it and how will you be able to access it?

No, the simulator will be free. I will provide a link once the game is complete. It will not be downloadable, but it will require Flash Player 10 or above, which does in fact require a download.

After speaking with multiple Batman: The Ride operators at several different parks, I finally decided to redo the entire control panel. The control panel graphics will be much better compared to the old ones. This was a minor setback, but everything is still running as planned.

The simulator will be released the week of 1/8/12. However, I will not release an exact date. Expect it early in the week, but if something goes wrong, it may be released later on.

Not quite - final touches are taking a bit longer than I expected. As usual, keep updated to this thread. The simulator should be up this week!

If I were him, I'd intentionally wait another few weeks to release it even if it is done. :D
