Yeah, I think there was a service road that runs next to Demon. They probably set up "base" there. and took some cherry pickers/vehicles off road.

Also, thanks for the video! I never realized that it happened in the 90s! I thought it was when Demon first became Demon.

they drove the firetrucks through Southwest Territory and knocked over some of the fences around Ricochet to access the second loop.

Maybe it's just me, but why not use the train-tracks and stop train operations?

^They probably did, but remember, it's kind of tricky to fit a cherry picker through either a tunnel or over a bridge.

speed is of the essence so a chainsaw to the fencing around Ricochet is def the speediest route

Interesting, it also looks like they had additional vehicles staged by the Washington Street Entrance. Finally according to this website, http://chicagoareafire.com/Div_4_GURN_Sta1.html, Gurnee only has one Tower Ladder. The only other Tower Ladder would be from either Great Lakes Navy base or North Chicago. Unless Gurnee has a reserve Tower Ladder that they manned with, "call back," personal for this incident? Thank you.

I decided against making another topic for this, but I found some footage of the park from 1978. Truly amazing.

That was great to see. Makes me wish Six Flags would have done a better job of expanding while keeping the charm of the park. Also, the parking lot was massive before Shockwave, Southwest Territory, and the water park expansions. I shudder to think at how busy the park was that day in the video as the majority of the lot was full, including the lot past the road in the middle of the lot.

^But remember that minivans and SUVs weren't popular yet, so each car carries around 3-4 people, rather than 7-8.

Interesting article http://www.nwitimes.com/uncategorized/s ... 247f8.html why do you think they waited 20 Minutes before calling the Fire Department? Thanks

It says in the article that they didn't want to get media attention. I see why, but they were going to get media attention anyways. If they did call 911 right away, then they might've been congratulated on their fast actions. If done properly, an accident can improve a park's reputation rather than ruin it.

Ok what reason besides media attention do you all think they had? Maybe seeing if they could self evacuate?

I'm not sure. in my opinion, they were probably trying to assess the situation and possibly try and get the train moving. I'm only guessing, as I have never operated a roller coaster.

What would have been the issue with getting the train down from the loop? It seems like a feasible option.

Mainly the fact that the rear axle of the train was forcibly torn off, causing it's fiberglass body to drop down between the rails violently wedging itself in place. That's played at least some role in that.

The park tells their employees to call within in the park before other emergency forces to keep a calmer environment.

Also maintenance has to assess the situation before any decisions like that are made.

But in the article it says with in three minutes the head of maintenance came out and knew right away they needed to call the Fire Department, so why was there a delay? Finally what are the protocols regard calling the Fire Department to rescue riders? Thank you.

I don't think any of us have those answers. Might want to ask Six Flags.
