BRANSON, Mo.– The old Ferris wheel at Navy Pier is getting a new home.

Come summer it will be the newest attraction at an amusement park in Branson, Missouri.

The iconic 15-story Ferris wheel became a landmark in Chicago, attracting thousands of visitors over the years.

The “Track Family Fun Parks” in Branson paid $2.5 million for it.

As for Chicago’s new Ferris wheel, it’s expected to be up and running at Navy Pier by summer.

So, sorry if you wanted it to come here. At least it's not too far away.

It's unfortunate a piece of Chicago history has left the state. It would of been nice if Chicago kept it and placed it somewhere else within the city.

There was nothing all that special or particularly good about that Ferris Wheel, was a relatively short, stock model Vekoma Ferris wheel same as Kentucky Kingdom, Moerys and many others. Not that the new one is much different, at least it's taller and newer Vekoma* stock model and has enclosed gondolas.

* Dutch Wheels B.V. is Vekoma's Ferris Wheel division.
