I thought it would be appropriate to make the thread for any news relating to our park and the Gurnee area here. I like to read and discuss what happens in the area and stuff that doesn't really directly affect the park too. Heres a few short interesting news stories I found online. Any news about the park or the gurnee area can be posted here from now on.
^This article talks about someone who got charged with battery at the Iron WOlf ride opening weekend sunday and also talks about a theft at one of the stores inside the park.
http://www.suntimes.com/5320426-417/man ... erica.html A 20-year-old northwest Indiana man was arrested over the weekend after he allegedly tried to enter the Six Flags Great America amusement park with a loaded handgun.
A man and woman had handed in their admission tickets and were in the line waiting to enter the main gate of Six Flags at 9:41 a.m. Sunday, according to Gurnee police.
All guests at the park pass through metal detectors. Upon approaching the detectors, the couple started looking very nervous and refused to go forward, police said. The man eventually jumped out of the line and went back toward the parking lot.

P.S Im not trying to make the gurnee area look bad by posting bad news about the park/gurnee. I just like to be informed about what happens at our park and potentially gurnee too. Enjoy!
^ I don't think that guy was necessarily trying to start anything. If he had a permit, then he would have been able to legally carry a handgun in his home state of Indiana. However, it is illegal (I think this is the case in most states) to have the gun on your person or in easy access while in the vehicle. Which means if he was mindful of the law, then he would have placed it in his trunk or back of his car while driving to the park. However, if he legally owned the gun and had a carry permit, then he should know that Illinois is one of the worst states when it comes to gun restrictions (no carry, only state requiring a FOID card), and should have left the weapon at home or in the car. Common sense should also tell anyone that a handgun is probably not allowed at a large public area like an amusement park. Even if it was allowed, I wouldn't carry a gun with me into the park. I doubt this scenario, but if the vibrations on a coaster are severe enough (AE comes to mind), it could rattle the gun to the point where either the firing pin moves and impacts the round, causing it to fire or something else of that nature. Bad move any way you look at it though.
Also, after reading the article, I think the charges against him are inaccurate. He never used the gun, only possessed it. There's a big difference there.
^Well, I think the major point is a gun anywhere in a public place will freak out masses of crowds. Gun in public=BAD!!! Its just instinct and with kids around too, it woulda been a huge freak-out and maybe discouraged people from going to the park for a while. The big picture is obvious. lol.
Gurnee needs a Metra station. They have one of the biggest malls in IL, they have a big amusement park, and they have a big hotel with a waterpark. Why does Libertyville have 2 Metra stations, and Gurnee doesn't have one?
Gurnee Mills Mall is just shocking to me how much it has changed over the years. Before, it used to be more like a discount / outlet type of mall, and now they have regular stores in there. For instance, they are opening a Macy's. They have Kohl's, Bed Bath & Beyond, etc. Before they had a Circuit City. It's just seems more like a regular mall now.
I sort of shocked how nothing has gone in the Krispy Kreme yet. That area of Gurnee at least is a thriving part, but yet they didn't find anything for Krispy Kreme. I don't get it. I wish they had a Sonic & an Arby's. They used to have an Arby's in Waukegan, but the place wasn't kept up very good!

^Yes. I don't trust people. Try to take everything you have on rides. Mark your sports bottle / drink bottle to differentiate it from other ones, so people won't be taking yours; if you have no one to give it to. As the sign says, hide your valuables in the car. They don't just put up that sign for no reason. If you have a purse (if you are a woman), take your money / credit cards out of it, and put them in your pocket while riding a ride. It's really better to just leave it in the car, and take as little as possible, but if a woman has to take it in, just take essentials. Do woman really need makeup / other random stuff when they are at the park?
It's better to put your stuff in a locker at the waterpark unless you have someone watching it. If you really don't want to put your stuff in a locker, than don't get great looking towels, and don't wear great stuff with logos that kids would want to steal. My brother got his Pirates of the Caribbean shirt stolen at the waterpark.

Did any of you know about ALL the foods they had at SFGAm? Wow I need to go now and try them! And next year looks like it should be thee year to go if you haven't gone these recent years!

Evanstan also has two. Anyways, Metra runs on either side of the Park. You can take the UPN or UPNW and then take a Pace Bus to the actual park.
It seems like the other side always wins on American Eagle Also, I've ridden Goliath 23 times in one day. HBU? (Sorry in advance for unnecessary commas and parenthesis every where)
The closest station to the park is at Prairie Crossing, then take the PACE Bus to the park. The closest line runs through downtown Gurnee. If they added a Metra station, they'd have to tear up a beautiful park, or some(stuck in the 70's) businesses. But I agree, we do need a Metra station or some sort of train connection in Gurnee.
Did anyone attend Frightfest during this time and notice the signs supporting the Mets? At first I was shocked that our park would support a team from another state but then I realized that this really would hit the heart of extreme Cubs fans. Really good marketing and strategy here. I am glad this only lasted as a short promotional gig during Frightfest. Phew!
I am glad to hear park attendance was up in 2015. It comes as a bit of a shock considering Goliath, which broke records, opened in 2014. Perhaps people are waiting until the hype dies down that season and wait until the next season in hopes of shorter lines now that hype has gone down a bit? Apparently the renovated parking lots and addition of Friday night fireworks helped as well as just luck overall playing in their favor such as the great weather on the 4th of July last year. Hank Salemi also spoke of a *wait or it*...gift shop that will be attached to the new Battle for Metropolis 4D coaster. Ahh well...anyway check out the articles.
SFGAm was closed for the flooding. Did anyone get any crazy flooding near them? I live about 5 minutes, from where some areas got really flooded and streets got closed off.
