Millions of gallons of water. Slides that send you speeding to a soggy finish. Wave pools that make you bob like a cork.
Two new water parks have opened within driving distance of Chicago — Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, a sprawling, 13-acre outdoor park next to Six Flags Great America amusement park in Gurnee, and Grand Bear Lodge & Indoor Waterpark Resort in downstate Utica.

A Daily Southtown reporter and his son took the plunge to size up a pair of splashy new destinations not far from the Southland

The joke down here is usually anything south of I-80 is what Chicagoans call downstate, but Utica?

Guess it just goes to show what a narrow view the northern media has of the rest of the state.

Other than that, good article.
It's the most fun in the park when your laughing in the dark.

Here's what I found interesting about the article:
What's coming? Ground soon will be broken for an indoor amusement park near the lodge. The building will be five stories high and will have 30,000 square feet, with room for carnival games and 10 rides.

Anybody know any other information regarding this indoor amusement park?

The funny thing is, that Utica basically is right on I-80 :)

As far as I am concerned Mike, Joliet is downstate. :D

Read that part of the article to Dave and was trying to find information about this indoor amusement park on the Grand Bear Lodge website but no such information exists.

If this is true, that would be great. I miss Old Chicago.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

I live about 13 miles above I-80. I think anywhere between ther and I-74 is midstate, under that is the south. Utica is more west than south. I like Ruebens from Duffy's Bar down there.
