SFGAm announces a 13 acre Hurricane Harbor

Announcements & News From The Homepage
Postby CoasterDave316 on September 16th, 2004, 1:53 am
Six Flags Great America has announced it's going to build a 13 acre, Caribbean themed Hurricane Harbor waterpark. The waterpark will open next spring, and be a seperate admission from the theme park, but guests will be able to purchase combo tickets to both the theme park and the waterpark.

Hurricane Harbor will include a 500,000-gallon wave pool; more than 25 speed, tube and mat slides; river rapids; family-sized raft rides; an erupting water volcano; a child-friendly play area; and the world's largest interactive waterplay structure featuring hundreds of water gadgets to keep guests soaked and busy.

The waterpark will be located at the northwest corner of the park, and built on land that was once the bus parking lot.

Six Flags has launched a website for Six Flag's Great America's waterpark, it includes a live webcam so you can watch construction coverage and all the details on the rides.

Wow, Im amazed. The waterpark layout looks great!

The webcam and construction log on the Hurricane Harbor website is awesome! Not only will it come in handy to see how construction is progressing but I can also find out how busy the park look's during Fright Fest!

After seeing the pictures and stuff im looking forward to see how it turns out.

Man, and I wanted to say a topic called "Yes, I can say Hurricane Harbor."

I will post more comments later, but this announcement sounds great!

Also, I like this new feature.

I think the greatest thing about the webcam is we won't have to hear different people say "I need Pix!!!" everyday.

Although right now it doesn't seem like the webcam is working if you look at the date and the time.

I guess the camera isnt truely live all the time. Six Flags might turn the feed off at night to conserve bandwith. I guess that might explain why the camera is stuck at 4:22 of yesterday.

As Dave said, they need to put a 'This ride is temporarly closed..sorry for the inconvience' sign up before turning the camera off. I guess they could just aim it at DeJaVu.

Anyways, Dave is just forcing me to post this because he deleted my post at like 3 AM

So did we get our Master Blaster? Somewhere on that site it said about traveling up and over hills at 40 mph.

I was just looking at the webcam which is now working again. And it looks like the whole overflow lot has been re-done this week as it looks pretty black.

In a article I just read in the Daily Southtown they said the new re-striping scheme of the parking lot will give them 500 new parking spaces.

Oohh Caribbean Theme, sounds cool. And of course, a slide called Riptide!. Although I do wish it was something other than Hurricane Harbor (I hate that name). Now lets hope they don't have to close Raging Bull and Viper .

All I can say is WAHOOOOOOO

Atomic Coasters
(Hammerhead, Mako, Big White, Stingray)

Speed Slides
(Paradise Plunge, Riptide)

Guests board these high-energy, water adventures five stories above the ground and repeatedly switch from open to enclosed flumes at alternating high rates of speed or they can blast up and over hills on the high-speed body slides at speeds of 40 mph.

In the picture that Brad linked us to, we are looking from the theme park, correct?

Hey, I just noticed something when looking at that last picture of the bird's eye:

The Lighthouse! Just as I had predicted.

It isn't the same one from Yankee Harbor though.

Please delete this, as what I suggested has been reversed.
(I said move all discussion into other topic. It was locked and all discussion was moved here.)

http://www.sixflags.com/parks/hurricane ... aster.html

It'll be like the one in the bottom image. Looks like fun.

And as for pricing....

Waterpark single day pass should be $30.00

Season pass w/ Waterpark should be around $125.00 ( Individual)

This looks like far over and beyond anything I'd have imagined!!

That is kind of cool they are doing the web-cam thing, although, PKI did that with Delirium and it only updated about once a week! :?
Finally Coaster Season!!

FYI, remember where the first construction started? That is where the wave pool will be located. That is to put the park into perspective for you.

Atomic coasters are probably the new porslide slide. The rocket slide, which launches rides up hill and down hill, kind of like a coaster.
Also in that site, they say there is four in the world to open for 2005, which are probably the four atomic coasters for SFGAm.
